Interview über ESK in Niederösterreich

Interview with Osman on His Volunteering Project in the care center via European Solidarity Corps

Jugend:info: Good day, Osman. Thank you for joining us today. Can you tell us about your first days in Austria?

Osman: Hello! My first days were very exciting. My host organisation picked me up from the airport, and we briefly visited the care center before they took me to my new apartment. They also did a lot of grocery shopping for me. On my first workday, I met my colleagues who introduced me to the care center.

Jugend:info: How was your relationship with the Youth Information office and your sending organization?

Osman: The Youth Information office was great; we met in person several times, they were very understanding and helped me with many things. I found my sending organization myself, and although they were helpful initially, communication unfortunately broke down later.

Jugend:info: And how did you find the workshops and training sessions?

Osman: The trainings were well organized. We always had a clear plan and program to follow. It was a great opportunity to meet people from different cultures.

Jugend:info: Was the accommodation satisfactory, and did you often feel lonely?

Osman: My apartment was very nice and well equipped. I didn’t feel lonely because I had met previous volunteers, and we developed a good friendship.

Jugend:info: Did the project meet your expectations?

Osman: Yes, it met my expectations. Sometimes I felt that I could have done more, but I stayed within the framework of the program.

Jugend:info: Who were your supporters, and how was the mentoring?

Osman: I had two wonderful mentors, Elisabeth and Cristine, who supported me in everything. Our communication was very solution-oriented, and we met regularly.

Jugend:info: Looking back, how do you assess your volunteering project and what are your future plans?

Osman: The project was very useful for the community, and I received a lot of positive feedback. I have decided to stay in Austria after the project and am supported by my mentors, although sometimes I need more comprehensive help.

Jugend:info: How would you summarize your experiences in two sentences?

Osman: I met wonderful people and had great experiences. I love Austria and would like to thank everyone who supported me.

Jugend:info: Osman, thank you for sharing your insights into your volunteer year!

Osman: Thank you as well for the opportunity to share my experiences!
